Phirst Photo Taken in 2006

AOL's "blogfather" John Scalzi asked for the first photos taken by bloggers/journals in the New Year. I'm a bit late in reading his request, but here's my first shot of 2006. Exciting life that I lead, I was home with my two cats as the ball dropped. Shortly after midnight I tormented both cats with my camera, but this was the first shot -- my cat Teaser. I later tormented them with the radio remote car, but that would be another entry.

There's a certain warmth I get from reading you. Your photos remind me of home as well touch a certain comradery I share with you. I live in a similar type area
as you do with nearly the same neighborhood layout. As the area becomes more rehabbed with many ethnic groups taking advantage of relative inexpensive purchase of buildings needing love I see a growth of community attitude returning. Being a male of African descent past middle age I grew up in such an area but saw it destroyed thru various manipalitive actions from city hall. I lived a number of years in the suburbs of St Louis but had trouble digesting the general coldness of its environs. To add to the distance many seemed to prefer from neighbors I felt that lost of "Hood" feeling where I could walk and wave at neighbors and call out their names. I missed the aroma of the bakery in the morning, the tasty samples of a new cold cut or cheese from the meat market. The aromatic smell of Bar B Q wafting thru the air being cooked with real wood or charcoal.(I can't see how anyone can enjoy cooking out using a propane gas pit which produces not one bit of aroma).I missed being able to walk a block or two to to a neighborhood store where as you do get a piece of free gum or candy treat or a scoop of real ice cream.
Those sensual things drove me to escape the suburbs back into the hood. I can walk 6 blocks to a park with tennis courts, a fishing lake, ball diamonds and other sports fields, queese cackling in the morning, as well as lots of folk walking their dogs or walking the exercise trail noding at bikers as they pass.

Your words as well as photos wrap me with a shared warmth I enjoy and look forward to the alert letting me know you have another tidbit for me. Nearly as nice as spreading cream cheese on a bagel as I sip coffee. :)
    Thank you
